A reversed 50mm lens offers better clarity, and a flatter field. If you already own a 50mm lens, it's free.
This loupe offers a higher magnification, and lets you see details better than a reversed 50mm. On the other hand, you also get a more curved field. You'll see some distortion using this.
It's possible (though not likely) that you shoot film, and don't already own a 50mm lens. If that's you, you might want this loupe. I am likely to keep this, and use it for close inspections of other items, but I probably won't use this for film negatives.

I got this to get an up close and personal view of butterfly and moth eggs/larvae. You can even take pictures thru it by putting the camera lens right up to the eyepiece. I like the large viewing lens.

Excellent quality little device with removable reticle. I find it very handy for general magnification use. The reticle is of a plastic construction whereas the magnification lens is high quality glass. Great Value.
